It is Friday and time for some screen printing. :) I was actually able to do some printing in my new shop. Yeah!! The last thing I need to do is organize and install some ventilation. Today I did a test print for a design which has a distressed effect on it. I was not sure which distress effect I liked so I exposed ten different ones on a 156 mesh screen. The majority of them turned out great but I noticed the ones with a lot of half tones in them did not expose all the way.
The solution to this problem is using a higher mesh screen such as a 230 or 305. The higher screen mesh allows you to pick up more detail. I think a 230 would work fine so I will have to put them on my order list. I will have to thin the ink with curable reducer when I use a higher screen mesh which is not a big deal. I watched a video on Ryonets blog which showed how to thin your ink using curable reducer and have it look like you used water based ink. The effect on the shirt was very cool. The reduced ink allowed the color of the shirt to come through which gave the design added dimension. I can not wait to try it! The design looked very soft.
Time to work on designs. Thanks for reading.
