I have finally solved my mystery of shifting screens. I could not figure out why my screens would go out of registration after I tightly locked them into place. I decided to set my printing press up from scratch again. I re-watched the video from Ryonet on how to set up the silver press and do all the adjustments. One problem I figured out was the stop that the screen arm rested on needed to be adjusted. I then loosened up all the adjustments and re-set them again. I made sure the screen arm was level with the platen. I think that was the big problem. Anyway, after re-adjusting all the parts I could re-adjust, my screens are no longer shifting after I lock them into place. It still takes me a few minutes to register every screen but they stay registered now. I am a happy camper. :) It was a nightmare. I thought I was going nuts!
My next purchase will be side clamps! This will also help in keeping my screens registered. Side clamps allow me to move my screen in four directions and have four locking screws instead of the two I have now. It would be a $500 investment (I need four!) but time is money. If I do not have to waste time re-registering my screens, I can print more shirts.
Here is the second shirt. Again, it is a four color print. It is still a challenge to get everything lined up but practice makes perfect.
Later!
