I am an entrepreneur at heart, and constantly run business ideas through my head. I have owned a few small businesses before. I did ok and learned a lot but none of them really took off. As much as I wanted to work for myself, I had a hard time finding a business that really made me happy. I had thought about a t-shirt business before but I never really came up with any cool design ideas so I put the shirt business to the back of my mind.
Then one day I was watching my dogs play when a funny image popped in my head. I thought it would make a funny t-shirt. All the sudden a light went off. “Find your passion and make a business out of it!” I decided at that moment to combine my love of dogs with my desire to work for myself.
I had my passion. Now what do I do? I have a list of talents but I will be honest to say that drawing was never at the top. I thought about finding an artist to draw what I wanted but how could someone really get your vision on paper. An artist could get close to what you want but they would never get the true picture of what is in your mind.
I decided to teach myself how to draw and have been working at it for months. I struggle every day with trying to get the pictures right. I might get one drawing done in a day and others have been in the works for months. I just keep plugging away and I know that eventually I will get it right. Perfect or not, they are mine.
I have so much to learn....from drawing, computer graphics, screen-printing, website design and blogging, to creating a successful business. It is definitely a lot to learn but in the end, it will all be worth it.
If you have not yet found your passion, do not give up. It will sneak up on you when you least expect it.
Till next time!
Jeanette
