Mayday, Mayday..Computer Going Down!!

You have spent all your time, energy and money installing programs on your computer and creating your designs.  You have a library full of awesome clip art and vector art.  Now is the time to protect all of your hard work.  My computer is in the middle of a melt down and at the moment I do not have my important files backed up.  I always think of backing things up but never seem to get around to it.  Well, procrastination can lead to a complete halt on a business.

I wanted to get this posted today so I could point out how important it is to have your files backed up.  If you do not have a back-up drive, I suggest going out and buying one.  We spend hours on our designs and losing them would be a huge set back.  BACK UP YOUR HARD DRIVE!!!

I have been talking a lot about graphics lately because they are the nuts and bolts of any screen-printing business.  I wanted to share with you a video called "Stop Selling Products...Start Selling Graphics."  It is a free video from silkscreeningsupplies.com.  I thought it was very interesting and wanted to share it with you.  They talk about design templates, which is another thing you should have in your graphics library.

Design templates are customizable.  You can take a completed design and change different aspects of it to suite your needs.   Again, for us none graphic artists, this is a great tool.  We can take a completed design and change wording or graphics.  I am into learning about anything that can make my designing easier.

VECTOR ART IS A MUST!!

Artwork is such an important aspect of screen-printing.  I believe it is the most important part of the process.  Taking a squeegee and pulling ink through a screen is easy but its the image you produce from this process that will make or break your business.  If you were not born with artistic ability, then the artwork part of screen-printing can be a long, frustrating and tedious process.  Do not fear my friends!  There is plenty of art available for purchase and for free.

One option when purchasing artwork is to purchase vector art.  Vector art is ready to go.  It has nice clean lines.  You can use one vector graphic for your image or combine the graphics together to create your image.  If you have a library of ready to go vector art, your designs are limitless.

I just purchased a vector art pack which has over 3400 vector art images.  It will arrive on Monday and I can not wait.   Having this art pack will benefit me greatly with custom orders.  There are so many graphics to choose from, I feel confident I will be able to complete any order thrown my way.
