The first press I bought was a 1-color, 1-station silver press from Ryonet. After I printed my first shirt I knew I wanted a multi-color press. All of the sudden I had colorful designs popping into my head. I was already looking to buy a 4-color press when Ryonet had their blogger contest. As an entrant into the contest I was lucky enough to receive a 4-color press for free. It is a fantastic piece of equipment and I LOVE it. It has really given me so much versatility.
As great as my 4-color press is, I am looking forward to the day I can purchase a 6-color press. Why the upgrade? More versatility!! I am in the process of designing a 3-4 color print for a very special person. (I will tell you who that is later!) :) Handling a 4-color design with my press is not a problem. Here is the issue....the design is 3-4 colors FRONT and BACK!! So after I print the front of the shirt I will have to remove the screens and go through the whole set-up process for the back of the shirt. If I had a 6-color press I could set the whole job up at once and have it printed in no time.
I can definitely see the advantages of having a 6-color press. There are other printing processes including 4-color process and simulated process. I am not familiar with those but I think one of them requires more then four screens. When I start to venture into those processes I will consider upgrading my press. For now I am enjoying my 4-color press and all that it has allowed me to do.
