Remember the saying "Measure twice, cut once."? Well, I found out yesterday that it applies to screen printing as well. "MEASURE TWICE (or three times), BURN SCREENS ONCE." Ugh!! I burned my image in the wrong place on the screen and that means....START ALL OVER AGAIN!! I am getting real good at washing out the screens though. :)
Even though I was extremely frustrated and had to start all over with the screens, it ended up being a good thing. There was a small adjustment to the image I had wanted to do and I forgot all about it when I printed the transparency. I went to burn another screen and noticed my mistake. I would have wasted lots of time and money if I had printed the bags. Most people probably would have not noticed but I think that little adjustment really makes a difference in the final image.
After many hours of work, I decided to call it a night and start over today. So today's project includes adjusting my image, re-printing the transparency, coating screens with emulsion and burning the new image. I will not have enough time to print today so maybe tomorrow. Lots to do and limited time.
So, what did we learn from yesterday? Mistakes are all part of the learning process. You will make mistakes! Make mistakes, learn and move on. :)
