PROGRESS

In my last entry, I was having issues with the texture of my prints. The ink felt very rough on the shirt and I do not like that type of feel. I think most people prefer a softer texture to their shirt. The last few days I have been taking notes on all the shirts I see. I work in the casino industry here is Las Vegas, so I definitely get a chance to see many designs. Ninety-nine percent of the shirts I see have that soft texture look. If I want my shirts to sell, I need to have that soft texture as well.

I was frustrated over the last few days because I know part of the problem is the mesh count of my screen. Right now I have 110 mesh screens and I need 156 mesh count and higher. I have not printed any shirts to sell so buying supplies gets a little difficult. It gets quite frustrating when you do not have the right tools for the job. I know it will get better. It is just the trials and tribulations of starting a business. :)

Today I thought I would change the off contact to see if that would help. (Check out my last entry for the definition of off contact.) I made the off contact smaller and IT WORKED. My prints have a much softer feel now. Yeah! I am very excited. I know a higher mesh screen will also help with the feel. I will be ordering new screens in a couple weeks. :)

I have some curable reducer arriving tomorrow. Curable reducer thins the ink, which makes it easier to work with and adds to a softer texture. I will definitely be trying that tomorrow depending on what time it arrives. I am hoping it works because I need to have two designs finished and printed for a charity auction on August 28th. I do not want to miss the auction because it will be a chance to get some free advertising.

See you soon!

  3. I mix it in a plastic container I get from the dollar store. Mix just enough for your job. You can always mix more if you need it.
